Contract Vs. Permanent Employees
A contract or temporary employee is generally hired by a staffing firm and then placed in a company for a finite period of time. Companies frequently use contract employees to work on projects with predetermined life-cycles. There are many benefits to hiring contract employees through A&A Search rather than taking on a full time permanent employee.

Staffing Costs
The most obvious and perhaps the most attractive reason a company will choose to hire a contract employee is the monetary savings that they can benefit from. Right from the start a company will save on workman’s compensation insurance, social security plus the cost of employer provided benefits such as health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, 401k benefits, etc. According to Forbes, these savings can save your payroll costs by 20% to 30% or more.

Convenient Employment Terms
A contractor does not come with the same obligations that a full time employee does and can easily be used at the convenience of the company. If a company needs a specific skill set for a project it is quick and convenient to bring on a contractor for the length of the project. If a project changes direction or is eliminated for any reason, a contractor agreement can be closed without additional paperwork or many of the processes that a full time employee might require, and keep in mind again that unemployment paperwork and costs would not be accrued.

How Do I decide?
If you are unsure if you need a full time employee or contractor think about your hiring needs and the scope of the project or position you are trying to fill.

  1. Is it a long or short term project? For short term project or if you are unsure, a contract employee might be a better choice.
  2. If the project is put on hold or changes for some reason, will you be able to use this employee somewhere else? If not a contract employee might be a better choice.
  3. How urgent is your need for staffing? Contract employees can usually be found and hired more quickly than permanent employees.
