Massachusetts Job Growth: Can Staffing Needs Predict the Future?

A recent Boston Globe article titled “Compared with US, hiring in Mass. has been decent, but brace for a letup” suggests we should be ready for bad news in Massachusetts, but are we really in for the dismal hiring prospects the headline suggests?  On the contrary, the article suggests that just maybe Massachusetts has been well positioned to excel in this weakened economy even as many other states lost jobs.

While there are many ways to view the economy and job growth, placement and staffing firms can offer a 3-6 month snapshot into the marketplace, according to the American Staffing Association. Even now our A&A Search and ClinLab Staffing crews are busy placing people at both small and large firms in Boston, Cambridge, Natick, and Worcester with regularity.  Our anecdotal evidence suggests that while the economy is soft and still fragile, perhaps Massachusetts will weather the storm better than most.

Call it luck or good planning, but Massachusetts has more global technology, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies in growth phases than most states today.  Companies are growing in their lab teams, doing new medical research, developing new web services, and expanding development teams everyday.
